Greater Good Studio is seeking a talented Communications Coordinator (contract role) to join our team!
At Greater Good Studio, we design programs and services to address some of society’s toughest challenges. From early literacy and child nutrition, to veterans housing and tenants’ rights, our projects tackle issues of health, education, poverty and injustice head-on. We believe that the best way to empower clients and communities is to put the design process in their hands, and the best way to create impact is to craft deeply respectful, empathic and user-centered tools and experiences.

The Role: We are looking for a talented communications coordinator to create and maintain a strong online presence in support of a new project that catalyzes cross-sector collaboration to build healthier communities where all children and their families thrive. The project engages diverse community partners in a series of human-centered design labs in six US locations.

Ideally, we are looking for someone in the Chicago area, where Greater Good Studio's offices are, however we may be open to work with someone remotely.

In this position, you will be a key member of our project’s communications team, responsible for implementing engagement strategies through social media channels and local events that  advance Greater Good Studio’s goals for the project. You will develop original content and suggest creative ways to engage the project’s communities, and facilitate local and national conversations that build interest in the projects. You’ll also travel with our team to our project labs across the country to interview participants and document local activities. Concretely, you should be able to create content that builds web traffic and social engagement aligned with the project’s broader communication strategy.

Note: This is an independent contractor position, with an average weekly commitment of up to 30 hours per week and a set project duration of 14 months, starting April 3, 2017 and ending May 31, 2018. In addition, the position will involve weekly travel for approximately 18 weeks of the project. Greater Good Studio is a results-only work environment (ROWE) so work is evaluated on performance not presence. We prioritize balance and flexibility to support the ebb and flow of the work.

NOTE: Greater Good Studio is committed to providing equal opportunity to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, family responsibilities, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, military status, or any other characteristic protected under federal, state or local law. We believe diversity is a strength and strategy for powerful and creative leadership.

Role Specifics:

Understanding audience preferences and channels, and creating engaging content (text, photographs and video) that sustains the project’s local audiences.

Facilitating online conversations with readers, responding to queries and reporting internally on online feedback.

Developing an optimal posting schedule and/or an editorial calendar, considering content and engagement metrics.

Measuring digital/social traffic and analytics, as well as monitoring SEO.

Staying current with changes in social platforms to maximize the effectiveness of the project’s social media channels.

Documenting the project’s local activities to contribute to project newsletters and final report.

Qualifications:

1 - 3 years experience implementing  social media channels across distributed teams in a collaborative work setting.

Expertise in using multiple social media platforms to build communities including hands-on experience with HootSuite or similar social listening and publishing tools, Wordpress or similar content management systems, MailChimp or similar email marketing services, Final Cut Pro or similar video editing software.

Holds in-depth knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics.

Possesses the ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video).

Able to leverage emerging trends in social/digital technologies to advance our goals

Possesses excellent communication skills.

Has strong analytical skills and ability to prioritize activities.

Is highly organized and self-directed, and able to produce and post content while traveling for the project.

Holds experience working with or for the social sector, or significant volunteer experience with a mission-based organization.

Excited to learn more about human-centered design and the intersection of kids and place.

Ready to join our culture of optimism, persistence, humility, curiosity, experimentation and feedback!
